That's one to grow on.

A new day means a new blog. I am stuck on the couch after a cycling injury, so writing on my triathlon blog (please visit http://www.trijill.com--- it will change your world) seems rather anti-climatic. I decided it was time to start a new blog in addition to my sporty blog, because I am quite the renaissance woman, ya know? Actually, I am not because I haven't even been to a ren faire.

Regardless, I am just goign to be honest here. I love pop culture. I love TV. I love US weekly. My husband can attest to that because he has to talk me off the bridge when my subscription doesn't come on 'time. I actually blame him for my tv addiction because when we first started dating (circa 2000), he introduced me to his friend Tivo. This was way before people knew about Tivo and it became a verb in our vernacular (as in: "I will meet up with you at the cafe after I Tivo Blind Date.). I didn't quite get the whole concept at first. Our conversations went something like this:

me: How did you just pause The Simpsons like that? Wait, now you press play and Homer is back in action? You have crazy super-human powers, don't you?

him: No. It just records to the hard drive. So when you pause it, you create this buffer and then when there are commercials you can just fast forward until the show is live.

me: (sounds of crickets chirping)

It took me a good 6 months to figure out TIVO. It took me about a year to figure out how to turn on and off the lights using the same remote control for the TV! But once I figured out the beauty of TIVO and how I could search for shows with my favorite actors and they would record while I sleep or am at work, I was hooked.

Though I love pop culture (PC), I would not consider myself an afficionado. In fact I am going to let you in on a couple of facts that may make you question my expertise on PC:

1) I have never seen a full episode of American Idol. I don't really get that show, but maybe I just have a low threshold for Ryan Seacrest (I see him enough when I watch E!News Live).
2) I fell asleep during the last "Lord of the Rings" movie. Please don't lynch me.
3) I didn't see the Star Wars Trilogy until they re-released them in 1997. I was 20 at the time.
4) I never liked New Kids on the Block, even as a preteen in 1989.
5) I don't like reality TV where there are regularly any of the following: hasbeens, night-cams in bedrooms, drunk people getting in fights, obscenely mean judges. Catty judges are fine---mean judges suck.
6) I have never opened a Harry Potter book.

on the flip side, here are things I LOVE :

1) Can we say Bravo? Oh my gosh, there only a few shows I DON'T like on this channel. Right now I am all about Wednesday nights because it is a double feature of Project Runway and Shear Genius. How can you not love Michael "I am underwhelmed" Kohrs---especially when he laughs like Muttley? Don't even get me started on kathy Griffin---she is fabulous!

2) Hour long dramas such as Felicity, Alias, Grey's Anatomy, Los, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewive and half hour comedies such as: 30 Rock, Weeds, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords. I give a gold star for all the casting agents of those shows---great ensemble casts!

3) Chick Lit.

4) Re-runs of 90210 on Soap Net...but ONLY the Brenda years.

5) Movies on Lifetime---this is a recent fave for me. I have accepted the fact that I am 31 and it is ok to be riveted by Valerie Burtinelli or Judith Light trying to save their daughters from prostitution/smack habit/stealing candy. Plus, Project Runway is moving to Lifetime next season, so a girl has gotta ready herself, right?

6) SATC. Need I say more? seriousl---need i say more?!
